Klyde Warren Park

An Overview To Klyde Warren Park

Downtown Dallas is home to the famous Klyde Warren park that spans 5.2-acres or 2.1 ha. The park was opened in 2012 and named after the youngest son of billionaire philanthropist Kelcy Warren after he donated $10 million to have the park built. Klyde Warren Park is a public park. However, it is operated privately by a foundation – Woodall Rodgers Park. The park is open from 6-am to 11-pm.

Location and Design

Klyde Warren Park sits above a section of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway. It stretches three blocks between Pearl and St. Paul Streets and connects Dallas Arts District, and offers public gathering space that Dallas visitors and residents can enjoy.

The park is near several structures ranging from the Dallas Museum of Arts to the renowned AT&T Performing Arts and Nasher Sculpture Centers. Other nearby structures include Ritz-Carlton Hotel & Residences, Parkside Condominiums, and Museum Tower.

The park was designed by renowned landscape architectural company, The Office of James Burne. Klyde Warren is a mix of both active and passive space. For instance, there are reading spaces, children’s parks, game areas, dog parks, and fountains. The park also has a performance stage and restaurant.

Klyde Warren Park Construction

Construction commenced in 2009. In October 2012, the park was officially opened to the public. The design and building were led by Jacobs Engineering Group. Besides the funds offered by billionaire philanthropist Kelcy Warren, other public and private partnerships also helped fund the full construction. The funds included a Dallas city bond and highway funds from the federal and state governments via TxDOT.

Klyde Warren construction also benefited from numerous private donations. However, Kelcy Warren’s $10 million donation stands out for giving him the rights to name the park. Before the official opening, the park received $16.7 million in stimulus funds to cater for transport enhancement construction.

Park Management

The park has many amenities that host over 1,300 events and programming annually. These events are paid using private donations led by a notable Foundation – Woodall Rodgers Park. The foundation raises funds to cater to the park’s operations to date. The donations also handle programming as well as construction costs when building new amenities.

Klyde Warren Park offers great vegetation and a setting that acts as an oasis for Dallas residents and visitors keen on relaxing among soaring skyscrapers. The park also hosts numerous food trucks that feed the visitors.
