University Park In Brief

University Park is a small neighborhood in Fort Worth, Texas. It is bounded by Sondra Drive, Blanch Circle, University Drive and Bristol Road. Some people consider Hamilton Avenue its southern border instead. That adds a lot of apartments to the residential real estate mix.

University Park is arguably defined by Texas Christian University or TCU. The University of North Texas Health Science Center medical school is a joint venture with UNT and TCU. That’s why it is located several miles from University Park in the North Hi Mount / Cultural District. You have to go several miles south on University Drive to reach Texas Christian University. The neighborhoods of University West and University Place are next to the sprawling TCU campus. University Park is much closer to the Botanical Research Institute of Texas.

Linwood is located on the east side of University Drive. Crestwood is north of University Park and stands between it and the West Fork of the Trinity River. Monticello is west of University Park. The Cultural District is south of the neighborhood. The Christian Arts Museum is even closer; it is in Linwood. Residents are a ten minute drive from downtown Fort Worth. Residents are a ten to twenty minute walk to venues like Casa Manana Theater and W. E. Scott Theater.

The area was given a bike score of 56. It has a public transit score of 39. There are bus routes along University Drive and White Settlement Road. Unlike other areas, there are bus routes passing through the residential areas, as well. For example, there are bus stops along Sondra Drive and Bailey Avenue. Sondra Drive passes through the middle of University Park. It has a walk score of 71. This is partially due to all the retail in the area. For example, University Park Village is a large open-air shopping center in University Park. There are also restaurants and service providers along Seventh Street, and that’s in walking distance of the entire neighborhood. For comparison, the average walk score for Fort Worth as a whole is 35.

The closest parks are Linwood Park and Monticello Park. Residents are roughly a mile from Farrington Field and Will Rogers Memorial. Farrington Field is a massive sports facility owned by Fort Worth ISD. Football games and track events are held here. If you’re willing to walk north for twenty minutes, you can reach the walking trails along the Trinity River and Rockwood Park.

The Jo Kelly Special Education building, Young Men’s Leadership Academy and Metro Opportunity schools are within a one mile radius of University Park. Most public school students are assigned to Atwood Elementary School and Southhills High School. Others may attend North Hi Mount Elementary School. The area is close to Bridge Association, a school specializing in assisting kids at risk of dropping out. The Junior League of Fort Worth, Tarrant County Food Bank and a ton of other nonprofits are located in this area. That is partially due to the fact that there are so many affordable apartments in the area. You can find one and two bedroom apartments and townhomes in University Park. Many of these multi-family housing units were built in the 1980s.
