Located in the Cross Timbers region of Texas, Fort Worth is the fifth-largest city in the state. Fort Worth’s economy is mainly based on manufacturing, oil and gas, defense, and distribution. These industries are led by such businesses as Exxon Mobil, AT&T, BNSF Railway, GE, and GM Financial. The city is also home to several Fortune 500 companies, including American Airlines, Bell Textron, Envoy Air, Metro by T-Mobile, and Pier 1 Imports. The city hosts many events throughout the year.

One of the major sporting activities in Fort Worth is the rodeo. This sport started when events at local ranches were combined with the stock show to create the rodeo. The first indoor rodeo was held at the North Side Coliseum on March 12, 1917. The next rodeos took place at Dickies Arena and Will Rogers Memorial Center.

Other activities include a concert series, a variety of festivals, and a range of music venues. The Lone Star Film Festival, the Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering, and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition are among the popular festivals in Fort Worth. The city has several museums that are also a part of the cultural district. These include the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, the Kimbell Art Museum, and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.

Other organizations in Fort Worth include the Federal Aviation Administration, the Federal Medical Center, Carswell, the National Archives and Records Administration, and the Fort Worth Public Library. Other businesses include the BNSF Railway, the Pioneer Corporation, and the American Airlines Group. The city is also known for its rich cattle industry. In the early twentieth century, the area became the final major settlement along the Chisholm Trail.

With the growth of the railroads, the city’s population increased. With the influx of jobs, many people moved to the North Side. Although the minorities in Fort Worth did not suffer from the intense degradation of the Old South, they were largely ignored in the city’s newspapers. They were routinely referred to as African Americans, a term that degraded them. However, the African American population only occupied the lowest socio-economic rung of society.

The city is also home to the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Mavericks. The Dallas Stars play in the American Airlines Center, and the Dallas Mavericks play at the Globe Life Field in Arlington.

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art features a permanent collection, as well as rotating exhibits that feature western artwork. The Sid Richardson Museum, located in the Fort Worth cultural district, features several exhibits that focus on Fred Remington and Charles Russell. The Bass Performance Hall is home to the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Texas Ballet Theater.

Many businesses have chosen to relocate their headquarters to Fort Worth. These include XTO Energy, which renovated seven historic buildings in downtown Fort Worth. This company created thousands of white-collar jobs. It later moved its headquarters to Houston.
