For the past two decades, Fort Worth’s population has seen rapid growth. It has grown from 540,391 in 2000 to 958,692 in 2022, a 43.6% increase. The lake that is created by the dam is known as Lake Worth.

During the Civil War, Fort Worth was a frontier town. Many settlers built their homes in the area that was once part of the Peters Colony. Local newspapers regularly described African-Americans in demeaning terms. There were no serious threats from the American Indians. However, the area was plagued with shortages and hard times. After the Civil War, Fort Worth’s economy began to change. Railroads brought wealth and a veneer of civilization. Oil and natural gas have helped to make the city one of America’s fastest-growing cities.

Fort Worth is home to several world-class museums. The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth features more than 300 works of modern art. The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Texas Motor Speedway host NASCAR races. The Fort Worth Aviation Museum contains airplanes from multiple time periods. In addition, the city is a popular destination for rodeos and festivals. The Fort Worth Stockyards is a premier cattle wholesale trade facility. The Stockyards also plays host to the annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.

The Woman’s Club of Fort Worth was formed in 1923. The clubwomen maintained contact with the business community and promoted charitable causes. They also supported a local orphanage. The Woman’s Club of Fort Worth purchased a building near South Fort Worth and later acquired a series of buildings along Pennsylvania Avenue. The club also funded the local hospital.

The Woman’s Club of Fort Worth has been a major influence on the cultural development of the city. The clubwomen also promoted school integration. The university and the local church integrated in October 1963. This was the last major city in Texas to implement an integrated plan. Although, it proved difficult to reverse the Jim Crow practices of the time.

The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex has been the fastest-growing metropolitan area for several years. Multinational corporations have headquarters in the area. These include American Airlines, AT&T, Bell Textron, BNSF Railway, Cash America International, GE, and Pier 1 Imports.

The city is located at a higher elevation than most other areas in Texas. The average temperature is around 34 degrees Fahrenheit in January and 96 degrees Fahrenheit in July. The city receives approximately 37 inches of rain per year. During the spring and summer, the weather is usually sunny. The city is prone to storms, and a large storm can occur without warning. It is important to have a plan in place for bad weather.
